Car Wrap Scam
ShareLet’s be honest – we’ve all seen a ‘get rich quick’ advertisement and been curious about whether it’s legit or not. Who doesn’t want to make a quick buck with minimal effort? That’s why fraudsters are finding success with the car wrap scam. Here’s how it works:
You may come across this scam via digital advertisement, job board, social media, flyer on your car, or letter in the mail. The “company” will say they are looking for participants or ‘brand ambassadors’ to wrap their car with advertisements for a well-known brand. They will send you a check and tell you to keep a sum as your payment and wire the rest of the money to a ‘pre-determined third-party’ as payment to wrap your car. Except, no one is going to wrap your car. Once you’ve wired that money, it’s gone. The check will be returned and you’ll be responsible for paying your financial institution the fees associated with a returned check.
In conclusion, be cautious of anything that looks ‘too good to be true,’ because it probably is. When in doubt, Member One is always here for you. Don’t hesitate to contact us or visit one of our retail center locations if you have any questions.
