Member One, a division of Virginia Credit Union, has donated $5,000 to Roanoke-based Carilion Children’s Hospital as part of a partnership with the Virginia Tech men’s and women’s basketball teams.
“This donation marks an exciting first year for our Member One Assists program,” said Member One Market President Tim Rowe. “We’re grateful to Virginia Tech basketball for joining us in support of our local children’s hospital, which is providing critical care and life-saving treatment each year to thousands of kids in our community.”
Member One is a longstanding supporter of Carilion Children’s Hospital, having donated $101,890 during the past decade. Its $25,000 donation in 2024 will support a patient room in the planned Carilion Taubman Cancer Center’s specialty clinic designed to treat pediatric cancer patients. The Cancer Center is scheduled to open in 2027.
Carilion Children’s Hospital provides the most comprehensive system of care in western Virginia dedicated exclusively to providing infants, children, and adolescents the most advanced health care close to home. Its many services include the region's only pediatric Level 1 trauma center, a pediatric surgery unit, neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, an inpatient unit designed for children, and the Child Life program. Each year, the hospital treats more than 10,000 hospitalized children.
“We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of our community partner, Member One,” said Linda S. Hodges, Major Gifts Officer with the Carilion Clinic Foundation. “Their support for our Child Life Program helps us care for hospitalized children’s emotional and mental health, as well as their physical health, by providing toys, games, arts and crafts, and holiday celebrations to reduce children’s fears and anxieties and improve their coping skills and healing process.”
Member One is deeply committed to charitable giving and community engagement. Last year, the organization donated more than $171,500 to charitable groups, contributed $56,400 to various community organizations, and reached 1,487 individuals through its financial education courses. The organization’s staff also volunteered 670 hours to various local nonprofits and community groups. Its many community engagement initiatives include serving as the proud sponsor of Virginia Tech men’s and women’s basketball teams, which includes the Member One Assists program and the popular Half Minute to Win It contest.
