Living out its mission to support members and its communities, Member One, a division of Virginia Credit Union, in 2024 donated more than $171,500 to charitable groups; contributed $56,400 to various community organizations; and reached 1,487 individuals through its financial education courses. The organization’s staff also volunteered 670 hours to various local nonprofits and community groups.
“We proudly embrace our mission to serve members, which includes a commitment to ensure the communities we call home are strong and vibrant,” said Member One Market President Tim Rowe. “Through focused giving, through our time and our expertise, we are making a difference in our communities.”
Member One has focused its community engagement efforts on financial education, food security, children's health and wellness, and community well-being. Its $171,542 in charitable giving supported more than two dozen charitable organizations, including the Carilion Clinic Foundation’s pediatric cancer programs, Goodwill Industries of the Valleys’ Melrose Plaza project, Junior Achievement of Southwest Virginia’s youth education and entrepreneurship programs, and Feed Southwest Virginia’s food assistance initiatives.
Member One employees separately supported Children’s Trust, an organization working to prevent and address child abuse, and the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge. Employees raised more than $4,700 for the two organizations.
An equally important part of Member One’s giving program included financial support for community organizations. With contributions totaling more than $56,400, Member One supported the work of more than a dozen community and local business groups, including the National D-Day Memorial, the Ronald McDonald House, and chambers of commerce in the Roanoke Valley, the New River Valley and Lynchburg.
Believing that financial education is the foundation for individual success and stability, the Member One team reached 1,487 attendees through in-person personal finance courses. Another 1,325 individuals benefitted from online programming and resources. The credit union also provided education scholarships totaling $6,500 to help deserving high school students pursue their higher education dreams.
“Following our successful merger with Virginia Credit Union, our commitment to supporting our communities is stronger than ever,” says Rowe. “We’ve always operated with a greater sense of purpose in mind, understanding and embracing our role as a community leader and as a good corporate citizen.”
